Tijdens de kerstvakantie belanden Amir en Amira, allebei tien jaar oud, samen met hun moeder in een opvangcentrum. Op oudejaarsavond zijn ze vastbesloten om de voorstelling, waar ze al weken naartoe leven, toch te laten doorgaan. Dat brengt hen in contact met andere bewoners, onverwachte uitdagingen en onbekende situaties. Door de aanwezigheid van de kinderen doen ook de volwassenen er alles aan om er een geslaagd feest van te maken.
